My best friend Seth's incredible band, Plum Sutra. Instrumental, vivacious, guaranteed to allow you to momentarily remove yourself from Samsara.
Best cover ever of my favorite song.
The Lakes of Canada by The Innocence Mission. Breathtaking!
This is a beautiful cover of the song Dreams from Fleetwood Mac's album 'Rumours'. This beautiful rendition is performed by The Morning Benders.
Great remix by Passion Pit of the Ra Ra Riot song 'Ghost Under Rocks'.
Radiohead! Reckoner. Sooo goood.
Odin's Raven Magic by Sigur Ros and an incredible orchestra. One of the greatest songs ever.
Blue Ridge Mountains by Fleet Foxes. So beautiful. I drove through Die Schwarzwald (the Black Forest) in Germany listening to this song, and it was perfect.
Hey by the Pixies. Love, love, love them.
Excuses by The Morning Benders. This is both a great song, and a great glimpse into it's creation!
Bear McCreary was only 24 years old when he began to compose the music for the show BSG. I personally think it has the best score of any American TV show ever made. (The song is called Prelude to War).
Yoko Kanno, the other greatest composer for television, in my opinion. The music she's done for Wolf's Rain and Cowboy Bebop is the greatest and bestest. (Song is called Silver River).
The Suburbs by Arcade Fire. Incredible song and incredible video to boot. I absolutely love Arcade Fire, and Spike Jonze!
Rodrigo y Gabriela. These two are amazing! and this vid is a combination of them plus the greatest of the great, Led Zeppelin (although Stairway to Heaven is by far not my fave song by them, what can ya do...)
Sondre Lerche. Totally cool Norwegian guy, awesome musician. This is an older song of his, and the quality is not amazing, but it's a funky, eerie example of his sound.
Black Keys. I saw these guys at Coachella in 2004, and it was one of the most fun concerts I've been to. Very dancey and sweaty, but awesome.
Yeah, this was the song in the Social Network trailer, and yes it is Radiohead's song from Pablo Honey...but it's also a very beautiful rendition of Creep by this amazing group called Scala, an all girls Belgian Choir.
Beach House-haunting, beautiful melodies that I cannot stop listening to! (The song is called Real Love)
Miniature Tigers-I'm super impressed by these guys. This was my biking to work music for months 'cause it's just so much damn fun. (The song is called Rock n Roll Mountain Troll).
Wild Beasts. Beautiful song. Also, the creepiest song ever. (It's called All the King's Men).
The Wailin' Jenny's-I saw these girls a few years back at The Kate Wolf Festival and they were phenomenally talented. Love them! (Song is called One Voice).
White Buffalo-Don't know that this guy is super well known, but he's very talented. He reminds me of Eddie Vedder a lot, and that is a huge compliment in my book. (Song is called Story).
Explosions in the Sky-LOVE these guys. So goddam talented, their songs don't just tell stories, they illustrate entire novels, entire philosophies, and they use only their instruments to do so. (Song is called Only Moment We Were Alone).
Suspended in Gaffa. This is a cover by Ra Ra Riot of a Kate Bush song. Her version is very twisty, weird carnival-esque, and kind of cracked out. I personally like the catchier spin that these guys play on it, but maybe that's just me.
Melanie Safka, a much too little known folk singer from the 60's and 70's. Played her very first large concert at Woodstock, '69. I've heard people play her and then tell me how much they love Janis Joplin. Makes me crazy. So here is one of many cool songs by this lovely lady.
